A Day in Dallas

Dallas Proper

Today was a great and productive day at Eidolon!  We took a quick trip into Dallas to pick up some supplies for a few projects we're working on, enjoyed a great lunch at Rusty Taco, and then came home and worked the evening away.

First stop was Dallas Paper Arts, we love this store!  The vast variety of paper available there, makes shopping enjoyable, and the little black terrier dog that greets us at the door, makes the visit fun too.

Since we were in Dallas, we crossed to the other side of the city and went to our favorite antique shop, Uncommon Market!  The shop is quite large, and we always find fun book presses and printmaking relics there.

We spent some time admiring their rare books.  A great way to research period binding and tooling is to personally study them.  By study, I mean actually hold them in your hand, examine the binding and tooling techniques, and get a good feel for how the book was made.

Joseph makes most of his own decorative tools (It's that engraving passion flowing through his veins), so we spent a fair bit of time studying the tooling, cataloging the stamps we have and the stamps we would like to make; another great way to make sure we have period accurate tools.

On our way out of the store we came across this box of old book covers and boards!  I know it's trendy right now to make fun crafty stuff out of old books, but we make a living restoring books!  This was a sad sight to see for a couple of book lovers.  I think Joseph was a speechless for a brief moment.

When we're out and about, we make sure to take a different route home, so we ended up driving through a few rather beautiful neighborhoods in Dallas.  Look at this house!  It is so beautiful, being sold by Sotheby's International Luxury Real Estate; which to me translates:  Homes I never see because I rarely drive though neighborhoods inside this tax bracket!

We enjoyed a beautiful sunny day!  We hope you're all having a great week!
